The font on both the obverse and reverse has changed for 2008. Although the year "2008" is smaller than last year, overall, the font appears larger. That said, the regular bullion EAGLES are some of the finest strikes I have seen. Truly sharp and beautiful, and completely without that ugly artifact that usually shows up in the sun. Yes, for the 2008 SAE, it is a "very good year" indeed!

Actually - they redesigned the silver Eagle for 2008.........there are a few changes..........from my notes...........>

OBVERSE - L & E in the word <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Liberty</st1:place></st1:City>, letters thinner, raised hugher thus MS 70 harder to get; G in God; U in Trust is lower case<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
REVERSE - Stars flatter & wider<o:p></o:p>
Eagle feathers are more deatiled<o:p></o:p>
Tilde redesigned<o:p></o:p>
Letters closer to the rim thus MS 70 harder to get<o:p></o:p>

I notice that NGC is fetching more than PGCS for these coins now, at least on ebay. Looks like about 10 - 20 % more.

Generally, its the other way round - Ebay buyers are not the smartest - and its possible they are doing that cause they see NGC being sold on TV........the really smart coin collectors will let the initial comotion die off and buy their coins in a few weeks for a bit less.....I am waiting to see what AMPEX is going to charge for PCGS's coins.

I meant reverse. This is a 2005. Notice the simple background, this coin is such a classic that no embellishment is needed.

I had to laugh. I did not know of any commotions. I never see any Silver Eagle ads anywhere. Never seen one. Especially on TV.

How much for proof above?

Normally I never see ads either - the commotion (what there is of it) is on Ebay (some on online sites too) - with prices being high at first, when the coins first come out, then they die down.

And while I don't generally see ads on TV for Eagle coins - I was totally shocked to see some recently - some by the US Mint - some by other companies...........

After these coins have been on sale a few weeks - demand slows down, and prices go down with them.

$31.95 this year, I think it was $29.95 last year.
